Tool Skills Kent - display of bushcraft axes, saws and knives

What Are Tool Skills?

Tool skills encompass the safe and effective use of the core bushcraft tools: axes, saws, knives and related equipment. At our Kent site, you will learn how to handle each tool correctly, how to maintain them, and how to use them for real woodland tasks like wood preparation, carving and shelter building.

Safety is paramount. We teach proper grip, stance, swing technique and safety zones before anyone picks up a tool. Then we progress to practical tasks: splitting wood with an axe, sawing efficiently, knife carving techniques and tool maintenance. You will leave with genuine competence and confidence.

Why Learn Tool Skills in Kent?

Tool skills are the gateway to all other bushcraft. Without the ability to safely process wood, you cannot build fires, construct shelters or create camp equipment. Our Kent woodland provides real materials and real tasks, giving you authentic experience with proper tools.

Learning tool skills in a supervised, structured environment is far safer and more effective than teaching yourself. Our experienced instructors teach proper technique from day one, preventing bad habits and building confidence. These are skills that last a lifetime.

Tool Safety and Maintenance

A sharp tool is a safe tool. We teach you why this is true and how to maintain your tools: sharpening axes and knives, saw blade care, and proper storage. Tool maintenance is a core bushcraft skill that extends the life of your equipment and makes every task safer and easier.

We also cover safety protocols in depth: how to carry tools, how to pass them safely, how to establish safety zones, what to do if something goes wrong, and how to assess whether a tool is safe to use. These protocols are practised, not just discussed.

Outdoor Team Building in Kent

As a team building exercise, tool skills & safety is hard to beat. It demands communication, shared decision-making and genuine collaboration under real conditions. Our Kent woodland strips away the usual corporate distractions and puts your team in an environment where every contribution matters and every role has purpose.

For the ultimate team day out, we can pair this with other activities. We regularly combine activities into full-day or weekend experiences. A morning of archery builds focus and friendly competition, an afternoon of pioneering demands engineering and teamwork, and an evening campfire brings everyone together. Your group leaves with shared memories, inside jokes and a genuine sense of accomplishment that carries back into the workplace.

A wonderful day getting back to nature, having fun and learning new skills. I brought my 9 year old and even though she was the only child the whole group was so welcoming to her and we both had a blast! We'll definitely go again.

What a day! I can't recommend this event enough. We had 6h of back to back activities and every single one was exemplary. James and his team are so down to earth, knowledgeable and fun. My abs hurt from laughing for 6h straight! I honestly cannot recommend this enough, incredible value and a day I will remember forever! Do yourself a favour and book!!!

Awesome atmosphere, great escape from day to day challenges. Instructors are well educated in many fields of life, literally knowledgeable about everything you could possibly think of asking. Most important it's great fun and you really feel like a member of great family, couldn't recommend that more to everyone who is looking to spark their life with new adventures. Best of all you can bring your kids with you as well, what a great opportunity for me and my son to spend a great quality time together! I look forward to next event!
