About The Team
Into The Woods started with one goal: to reconnect people with nature and with themselves.

More Than Bushcraft
Today when everything feels online, we see stepping outside and unplugging as essential. Our events go beyond just teaching survival skills. They focus on building connections - connections with the outdoors, with people, and with the parts of ourselves that come alive when we dig in the soil, inhale campfire smoke, or string up a rope and turn it into a bridge.
Our team includes bushcraft enthusiasts, outdoor teachers, and community organisers who have spent countless hours in nature. We have been training, teaching, and learning with people from many different backgrounds. Whether someone is making their first fire or has years of outdoor experience, we invite them to join us with an open mind, patience, and an adventurous attitude.

Two Ways to Experience the Woods
Every month we host all-day bushcraft workshops open to anyone. Join us to learn cool skills, try out new activities, and spend time outdoors. You'll get to build shelters, start fires, throw axes, shoot targets, work on knots, and build pioneering structures. Plus, there's always good conversation by the campfire.
Browse EventsWant to create a unique event? We craft tailored experiences for birthdays, stag and hen parties, corporate team-building days, school trips, or family outings. Each session encourages hands-on learning, includes everyone, and is customised to match your group's goals and energy.
Plan Your EventBecause Outdoor Skills Matter
Because making fire from nothing changes the way you see the world.
Because tying your first proper knot builds more than ropework - it builds confidence.
Because putting down your phone and picking up an axe might just be the most refreshing thing you do all year.
Because real connection happens when your team works together to build a shelter before the rain hits.
Because nature is for everyone - not just seasoned hikers or survivalists, but families, office workers, teenagers, and introverts.
Because you deserve to know what you are capable of.
About James Bulman
Founder, Lead Instructor, Director

James brings over 45 years of hands-on experience in outdoor leadership, youth development, and pioneering skills - along with a deep passion for passing those skills on.
Growing up in a rural setting, James had the unique opportunity to explore everything from horse riding and archery to sailing and survival skills. That early exposure to the outdoors laid the foundation for a life rooted in adventure, discipline, and community service.
At just 11 years old, James joined the Sea Cadets in Surrey, where he learned the value of self-discipline, self-reliance, leadership, and teamwork. He later served with the Royal Navy, and spent more than three decades working in youth and family services - helping others grow through instruction, mentoring, coaching, and building resilience.

About Joshua Evemy
Co-Founder, Operations Director, Instructor
I'm Joshua. I helped start Into The Woods with James because I've always felt a pull toward movement, pushing limits, and the wild beauty of the outdoors. After meeting at a business meeting in 2020, we discovered we had similar passions in life and decided to work together to do what we love.
Over the years, I've trained in callisthenics, HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), boxing, and Muay Thai. These practices taught me how to be disciplined, push through challenges, and stay in touch with my body. To me, fitness isn't just about being strong - it's about being adaptable, aware, and finding flow.
My love for bushcraft grew because it feels real. It strips everything down to the basics and shows you lessons no gym can teach. You learn to build, solve problems, stay tough, and think on your feet. Few things feel as humbling as crafting a shelter from the ground up, or creating fire from what's under your boots.
Into The Woods is my way of mixing all those passions: movement, building skills, human connection, and the great outdoors. We need to spend less time staring at screens, get moving, and reconnect with the outdoors.

About Summer
Instructor • Project Manager

Hello, my name is Summer, and I am an instructor with Into The Woods.
While technology is an essential part of modern life, I believe it's important to find a balance between the digital world and the natural one. We spend so much of our time connected to screens that many of the practical skills and simple joys of being outdoors can easily be forgotten. Nature has a way of grounding us, helping us slow down, reconnect, and learn something new about ourselves.
After leaving my office job in London, I finally had the freedom to travel, explore, and pursue the experiences I had always wanted to make time for. Ironically, life is now busier than it ever was during my 9-5, but it's a busy life filled with purpose, adventure, and continual growth. Being part of Into The Woods allows me to combine my passion for the outdoors with personal development, learning, and helping others discover what they are capable of.
I am a firm believer that learning never stops. Every time I attend an Into The Woods session, I come away with new knowledge, skills, or perspectives. Staying curious and remembering that none of us know everything is both humbling and rewarding, and it's something I encourage everyone to embrace.
On a less serious note, I'm a massive child at heart, so the chance to spend time outdoors playing with big sticks, building things, and sitting around a fire is naturally very appealing to me.
I look forward to meeting you around the campfire soon.
