Rain is coming. Not today necessarily. But it is coming. It always comes. And when it does, most people have two options. Go inside. Or get very wet. After Shelter Craft Weekend you will have a third option. Build something. Shelter Craft is our shelter building weekend and it is fundamentally about one thing. Understanding how to stay warm, dry and protected in the outdoors using nothing more than what the woodland gives you and a few simple materials. This is not camping. You are not setting up a tent and calling it a night. You are building your shelter from scratch. Debris shelters constructed from branches, leaves and natural materials that genuinely retain heat and keep the weather out. Tarp shelters rigged with precision that hold up in real conditions. Understanding how heat is lost and retained and what to do about both. By the end of the day you will look at a woodland completely differently. Where most people see trees and leaves you will see building materials. Where most people see a patch of ground you will see a bedroom. That shift in perspective is one of the quieter but more powerful things that happens on this weekend. Throughout the day we mix things up with different builds and practical activities to keep things varied and genuinely engaging. This is not an afternoon of standing around watching someone else do it. You are building from the moment you arrive. As the evening comes in we gather around the fire. The shelters you spent the day building are still standing. Some of you will sleep in them overnight. There is something about sleeping in a shelter you built with your own hands that does something to you that is very hard to explain and very easy to feel the morning after. You wake up dry. You wake up warm. And you wake up knowing something about yourself that you did not know the day before. Come for the skill. Stay for the morning.
